Fresh Organic Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is one of the kitchen's most versatile herbs, treasured for its warm, earthy flavor with subtle notes of lemon and mint. At Faircrest Farms, our thyme is regeneratively grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, allowing its natural oils and rich aroma to flourish. A few sprigs can transform an everyday meal into something memorable.

Flavor Profile

Thyme has a savory, woodsy flavor that stands up well to long cooking, making it an essential herb for soups, stews, roasted vegetables, meats, poultry, seafood, beans, sauces, and breads. It pairs beautifully with rosemary, sage, oregano, garlic, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, carrots, and summer squash. Fresh thyme also adds depth to vinaigrettes, herb butters, marinades, and homemade stocks.

Nutritional Benefits

Though used in small amounts, thyme is packed with beneficial plant compounds. It contains:

  • Vitamin C to support a healthy immune system
  • Vitamin A for healthy vision and skin
  • Vitamin K for bone health
  • Manganese and iron, important minerals for metabolism and oxygen transport
  • Powerful antioxidants, including thymol and carvacrol, which have been studied for their natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties

Storage & Use

Store fresh thyme in the refrigerator wrapped loosely in a slightly damp towel or in a reusable produce bag. It will typically stay fresh for one to two weeks. Rinse just before using. Strip the tiny leaves from the woody stems for most recipes, or add whole sprigs to soups and braises and remove them before serving.

Farmer's Tip

Fresh thyme is one of those herbs that rewards slow cooking. Add it early to soups, roasts, or sauces so its essential oils have time to infuse the dish. During the growing season, it also makes a wonderful addition to bouquets of fresh herbs for grilling, roasting, or preparing classic herb blends like Herbes de Provence.

At Faircrest Farms, we believe herbs do more than season food—they connect us to the garden, nourish our bodies, and bring the fresh flavors of the season to every meal.
