Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!
This Week's Offering
The zucchini are jumping. In fact, some plants in our high tunnel have become almost vine-like and are demanding trellises as they race upward. They are leading the way, with cucumbers and melons soon to follow.
Alongside the zucchini, we're enjoying the final abundance of spring with garlic scapes, crisp radishes, bunching onions, and our vibrant salad mix. What a beautiful season for fresh end-of-spring salads!
In the Field
With nearly all the transplants now in the ground, we're settling into the rhythms of growth and harvest. Successive planting continues as we sow beans, beets, carrots, and radishes to ensure a steady flow of fresh produce throughout the season.
We're also feeding the life beneath our feet. Applications of worm casting tea are helping fortify and nutrify our plants while supporting the long-term health and balance of our soils. Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we do, and we are continually investing in the future fertility of this little piece of earth entrusted to us.
Part of the Crew
We're grateful to welcome Siena and Isaac to the summer crew!
With school out, we now have the blessing of teen power to help keep the farm humming. Their energy and cheerful willingness make a tremendous difference. From harvesting and weeding to washing and packaging, many hands truly do make light work, and we're delighted to have them alongside us.
Words of Wisdom
“The human venture depends absolutely on this quality of awe and reverence and joy in the Earth and all that lives and grows upon the Earth. As soon as we isolate ourselves from these currents of life and from the profound mood that these engender within us, then our basic life-satisfactions are diminished.”
— Thomas Berry, The Great Work
As farmers, we experience this truth daily. There is something deeply renewing about participating in the rhythms of life and witnessing the beauty of things that grow.
