Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!
Thank you to the ~30 friends who joined us for our 2nd Annual Faircrest Farms Open House!

What struck us most was how much people truly want to know where their food comes from.

  • They want to eat local food.
They want to learn how it is grown.
And they want to feel the vitality and flavor packed into every vegetable.

One of our Farmers Market customers recently told us:

“I bought your vegetables and started eating them. Almost immediately I noticed I was feeling better. Your crops are really medicine!”

That is one of the greatest compliments we could receive. We believe food can be more than something that simply fills us up. When food is grown in healthy soil, harvested at its peak, and eaten fresh, it can nourish us in ways that go far beyond calories.

🌧️ Grateful for the Rain

We are especially grateful for the 0.6 inches of rain we received this past week! That brings Ogden's 2026 rainfall total to about 21 inches—nearly the 22-inch annual average. After a summer of watching every drop of water, we don't take a good rain for granted!

🥬 This Week's Harvest

More salad mix! Our salad greens are really beginning to take off, and we expect the supply to continue increasing over the next several weeks.

With cooler temperatures and plenty of sunshine, the fall crops are looking beautiful. This is one of our favorite times of year to watch the fields come alive with leafy greens.

🌞 In the Fields

We are trying to harvest as much of the sun as we can!

Most of our transplanting is now finished, and the fall crop of leafy vegetables is looking very promising.

We've also fully transitioned from the Pineview water supply to city water. We're learning a new irrigation rhythm and using pulse irrigation to make every drop count.

Meanwhile, we're clearing beds and preparing to sow our winter cover crop. Our goal is simple: don't leave the soil bare. We want to keep it alive, protected, and growing—even through the winter.

🌱 Relaunching Lives Through Farming

We also have two new applicants interested in working with us through our farm-based life-relaunching program.

Rather than simply putting someone straight into a job, we're giving them an opportunity to volunteer with us for a few weeks and see if the farm is a good fit for them—and for us.

There is something powerful about working outdoors with your hands.

We believe there is a lot of healing available in nature—and that farming can provide more than a paycheck. It can provide work, belonging, purpose, and a path forward.

🌿 Words of Wisdom

“We can no longer hear the voice of the rivers, the mountains, or the sea. The trees and meadows are no longer intimate modes of spirit presence. The world about us has become an ‘it’ rather than a ‘thou.’”
— Thomas Berry, The Great Work

Perhaps this is part of what people are looking for when they visit a small farm. They are looking for a connection—with the soil, with the seasons, with the people who grow their food, and perhaps with something deeper than themselves.
