Dear Faircrest Farms Friends, Shorter days, crisp greens, and a magical evening celebrating three years of Faircrest Farms. See what’s fresh this week and how you can keep growing with us!
Happy October! This past Saturday, daylight dipped below 12 hours. With shorter days, our farm shifts into a new rhythm. Tomatoes and peppers are finishing up in the field, making way for cover crops that will restore and enrich the soil. In our high tunnel, however, a few tomatoes are still hanging on. And our greens—salad mix and arugula—are thriving in the cooler weather and rain. These fresh, crisp greens will carry us through October and into the rest of the year.
A Magical Open House Last night’s Open House was truly special as we gathered to celebrate three years of Faircrest Farms! Guests enjoyed farm tours, delicious food, and a slide presentation highlighting our journey. We even lit up the farm—our front sign now has lights, and the high tunnel glowed with warmth and community.
The food was a true celebration of the harvest: tomato chard soup, zucchini bread, peach bars, baba ganoush, and hibiscus tea—featuring around ten fruits and vegetables grown right here on the farm. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, helped set up, and made the evening shine. Special thanks to local baker Chase Campbell of Wild Shaped Bakery @wildshapedbakery and Anne Dunaway of Urban Prairie Agriculture @urbanprairieagriculture for contributing their talents to the feast.
