Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!

We’re finally beyond the threat of frost, and today is a Biodynamic “Trine” day — a wonderful day for sowing roots and flowers. We’re grateful for the rain falling in the mountains and for any moisture that continues to bless this growing season. Thank you for supporting our annual plant sale — we truly believe we’ve grown some best-in-class seedlings for your garden delight this year, and you are simultaneously providing a future for 8 more Ogden neighbors.

This Week’s Offering

Fresh spring salads continue to shine this week, along with some sweet carrots and flavorful leeks that successfully over-wintered in the ground. It’s a reminder that the soil keeps working even through winter’s quiet season.

Here’s a summary of what’s available this week:

🌿 🌿 🌿 Plant Sale🌿 🌿 🌿

The next two weeks are one of the very best windows for planting in the whole year. With the sun in Taurus, warmer days ahead, and soil temperatures finally rising, conditions are lining up beautifully for transplant success. Sow almost anything during this stretch, and you’re very likely to be abundantly rewarded.

Yes, we've made it easy for you! Our plant sale is located in our front drive. You can hand pick your plants, then place your order online at any time. Either order on line or drop your order slip with cash in envelope at any time.

Don’t forget to brighten your property with flowers that nourish both beauty and biodiversity. Our daisies, lisianthus, chamomile, rudbeckia, bee balm, echinacea, yarrow, strawflower, statice, and snapdragons help attract pollinators that naturally assist with balancing less-friendly insects in the garden ecosystem.

Take a look at our seedling offerings (flowers, herbs, and vegetables). We also highly recommend these favorite tomato varieties for flavor and performance:

  • Moskovich
  • New Girl
  • Sun Gold
  • Chadwick Cherry
  • Valencia (yellow and wonderfully sweet)

And don’t miss our fast-growing Green Nutmeg melons — a delicious melon similar to cantaloupe — along with Salt & Pepper cucumbers, butternut squash, and spaghetti squash for bounteous summer harvests.

In the Fields

The zucchini are exploding with growth already — nearly two feet wide and a foot tall — and the cucumbers are climbing fast enough that they need trellising now. Over the past week we’ve also been occultating beds: warming and humidifying the soil beneath tarps so microbes, fungi, and nematodes can actively transform organic matter into rich, fertile ground for the season ahead.

New to the Crew

We're thrilled to be adding some help for the summer bumper crop coming. Adrian Madrigal joins us from Grow Ogden farm crew and Jessica Redford joins us as a neighbor who loves to work outdoors. (See photos above.)
