Dear Faircrest Farms Friend,
We hope you’re staying cool out there — and keeping the lemonade flowing! Summer squash is thriving, tomatoes are ripening, and a surprise squash has us stumped...
From the Field
There’s something special about harvesting the first spaghetti squash of the season — and we just did! Cucumbers are coming in strong, and both golden zucchini and Patty Pan squash are proving to be this year’s standout performers.
This week, we’ve quadrupled our tomato harvest to 4 pounds of mixed cherry tomatoes — With much more to come! One mystery summer squash, orange and shaped like a Patty Pan, has us scratching our heads… Name ideas are welcome!
The flower beds are popping — bee balm is in full bloom — and the basil is bushing out nicely. Okra is also beginning to take off, and it’s one of those crops you have to keep a close eye on. Harvest daily or risk missing the best!
Farm Updates
We wrapped up the first round of trellising — always a satisfying milestone. Our younger planting of Black Beauty zucchini is growing rapidly. These hot July days keep us laser-focused on irrigation. Keeping things watered and thriving is the name of the game.
Growing Tips from the Field
Shade cloth can be a game-changer for summer gardening. We use 30% shade cloth in our high tunnel to protect tomatoes and cucumbers during the hottest stretch of the year. It helps reduce stress and boosts growth. Now’s the time to consider it for your own garden.
From the Table
Most of dinner last night came straight from the farm: Salad mix, carrots, cucumbers, bunching onions, and sliced Valencia tomatoes. Simple, seasonal, and absolutely satisfying.
