Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!
Produce for Sale This Week
Thanks for your orders last week! It's great to have you back from the holidays.
Mid-January through mid-February is the hardest part of winter for farming—but we're hanging in there and still growing strong!
Available Now:
-
Carrots - Still in stock!
-
Radishes - Back in small quantities
In The Field
The signs of spring are already emerging in the high tunnel:
-
Soil temperature at 5" below the surface is 50 degrees!
- Weeds are popping up in the high tunnel (a sure sign that spring is on its way)
- We've sown more turnips and radishes
- The beets and turnips are growing beautifully!
In the Kitchen
We've been making hearty bean soup with our dried peppers and adding those sweet baby carrots for extra flavor and nutrition.
Exciting news: Your cooking class surveys are in! We're using your input to design our first cooking class offering. Stay tuned for details!
Real Food - USA
Have you seen the new RealFood.gov initiative from the US Department of Health under Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.?
The updated food pyramid now recommends:
-
3 portions daily of a variety of colorful, nutrient-dense vegetables
-
2 portions daily of fresh fruits
- More whole foods overall
It's validation of what we've been saying all along—fresh, local, real food matters!
Utah Food & Farm Conference
We're heading to the Utah Food and Farm Conference in Cedar City this week (January 15-17)! It's not too late to join us if you'd like to meet like-minded local growers and fresh food enthusiasts.
Hats off to Symbria, Sarah Patterson, and a host of other local food disciples for organizing this incredible gathering.
Note: Because of the conference, our market will be Wednesday only this week.
Words of Wisdom
On Clean Food and Clear Thinking
