Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!
Catching the Wave of Life
There are some celestial wonders unfolding today and tomorrow—the new moon and eclipse coinciding with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. This is a rare event indeed! For us as biodynamic farmers, these are magical days for planting and working with the rhythms of nature.
We’re doing our best to catch this wave of “life force” and put it to work in the soil!
I am SO grateful for fellow organic farmers who are willing to share what they’ve learned. Yesterday, I had the privilege of visiting Andrea Morgan at Moon Shadow Farm in Hoytsville. Their farm supplies some of the best restaurants in Salt Lake City, the Park City Farmers Market, and their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) customers.
It was spectacular.
Like a sponge, I soaked up everything I could—how they organize their fields, manage their crops, harvest, and keep a small farm productive and thriving. I came home inspired, with a notebook full of ideas we can apply here at Faircrest Farms.
One of the great joys of farming is that there is always something new to learn.
This Week’s Harvest
Beans are ON! They’re sweet, crisp, tender, and full of flavor—and our biggest challenge right now is simply keeping up with the harvest!
Also coming strong from the fields:
Fresh salad mix
Arugula
Other leafy greens
Cucumbers
Radishes and turnips
Zucchini
- And more seasonal goodness as the fields keep producing
We hope you’ll enjoy the abundance while it’s here!
In the Field
We’re already looking ahead toward fall, preparing beds for new plantings and working to get the most from every square foot of growing space.
That means sifting compost, renewing the soil, preparing beds, and planting for the next season—all while trying to keep up with the bounty coming out of the fields right now.
For us, regenerative farming is a continual cycle: harvest, renew, plant, grow, harvest again.

Words of Wisdom
“The mind is a garden.”
Victor Hugo, in Les Misérables, describes how a life can move between serving others, working, reading, writing, and even digging in the garden—and calls all of these activities “gardening.”
I love that idea.
A garden is never finished. It requires attention, patience, cultivation, pruning, nourishment, and sometimes simply waiting.
So does the mind. So does the soil. So does a community.
Perhaps that is why we find so much meaning in growing food.
