Hello Faircrest Farms Friends!
April is finally measuring up to her reputation. With a welcome 1.5 inches of rain, cooler temperatures, and softer sunlight this past week, the farm is breathing a deep sigh of relief.
This Week’s Offering Chard is joining our staple lineup this week, bringing its nutrition to your table. Arugula is also making a gentle comeback—slow but steady, just the way spring likes it.
We’re also hard at work potting up flowers and vegetable starts in preparation for our annual plant sale. You can place your order anytime—just text Rita with the date you’d like to pick up your plants, and we’ll have them ready for you. For details, see our Plant Sale webpage.
On the Farm We’re especially grateful this week for our incredible farm crew, who faithfully tended the land while Rita and I spent a few days in Austin, Texas visiting family.
The rain has given us a chance to organize the shop, prepare tools, and get ready for the sunny days ahead. We’re also finalizing our bed plans, guided by what we believe you, our customers, most want to see on your plates this season.
Pollinator planning is underway as well. After reviewing a wide range of options, we’re selecting our favorite flower varieties to support bees, butterflies, and the broader ecosystem here at Faircrest Farms.
In the Fields In the high tunnel, zucchini and cucumber seedlings have been transplanted and are settling into their new space beautifully. Pole beans have been sown, also.
While in Austin, I had the pleasure of visiting with The Natural Gardener John Dromgoole, a long-standing, seasoned organic grower. We traded ideas on compost tea and soil health. (see photo.)
